Abstract:

This article provides a summary of the proceedings of the IX International Symposium, “Russian Grammar: Polyparadigmality as a Methodological Principle of Modern Scientific Research,” held at Irkutsk State University. The event saw the convergence of linguists from 24 Russian cities, along with international experts from Belarus, Kazakhstan, and China, to discuss the evolving landscape of Slavic linguistics. The review highlights several burgeoning areas of research, with particular emphasis on the study of “Russian Grammar in the Mirror of Translation.” In the process of translating Russian texts into foreign languages, due consideration is given to the nuances of grammatical stylistics. Furthermore, experimental methods in grammatical analysis are explored. A central theme of the symposium was the ongoing professional debate regarding the structure and content of a new academic grammar of the Russian language. The participants emphasized that the prevailing standard, the Academic Grammar of 1980 (“Grammatika-80”), necessitates a contemporary successor. The range of linguistic phenomena and contemporary usage has expanded significantly over the last four decades, necessitating new descriptive methods that reflect current scientific paradigms. Although the development of a novel academic grammar is a long-term project, the symposium provided a critical platform for aligning the professional community’s vision for its eventual implementation.
