Abstract:

The paper analyzes the manuscripts of Alexei Kulakovsky, the distinguished Russian poet and cultural critic (1877–1926). The original drafts of his essay “Yakut Intelligentsia” (1912), initially made available in the early 1990s, are considered of significant value. The relevance of this research stems from the general lack of sufficient exploration of most classical manuscripts, specifically regarding their archaeographic nature in relation to historical and textual commentary development. The analysis covers the third volume of manuscripts, including eighteen academically compiled archival records taken from the National Archive of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and a personal collection. Included are versions of the scholarly work “To the Yakutsk intelligentsia” and materials from the previously unpublished archive of Alexei Kulakovsky of the period of his studies in the Yakutsk real school in 1895–1897. The aim of the research is to introduce into scholarly circulation an evidential base for the main text of the aforementioned work, as well as to present autographs from the early archive that have not previously been utilized as academic sources. In accordance with the objectives, the methodology of the study is comprehensive, employing textual analysis of autographs, documents, and a number of published texts. The results of the study include the identification of textual variations in the manuscript versions of the work “To the Yakut intelligentsia”, shedding light on the history of the main text and its subsequent connection with the earlier works of the writer.

Keywords: “To the Yakut intelligentsia”, analysis of manuscript variants, Troshchanskiy, Basharin’s collection, early sources of Kulakovsky’s heritage, Yakutsk Vocational School, textual criticism
