Abstract: The article is devoted to the memory of a prominent Russian linguist Eugen Helimski (1950–2007). His numerous scientific achievements belong mainly to historical Uralistic. The article deals with his achievements in Slavic and Russian etymology. Besides, in connection with Helimski's ideas four Russian dialectal words (бúстер, бисяга, нóрник, чка) are considered.
