Abstract: The monograph under review is devoted to the study of the monument of the written culture of Buryats of the 19th century – the chronicle “History of the Khori Buryats” (1887) written by Shirab-Nimbuu Hobituev. The lexical composition of the chronicle language is characterized, including common Mongolian, old Mongolian, and Buryat elements along with Russian borrowings, as well as the toponyms of Turkic and Tungus-Manchurian origin. The text of this chronicle reflects the syncretism peculiar to all Buryat Chronicles, i. e., the mixture of genres of historical Chronicle and work of art. Transliteration in Latin, transcription into Buryat and Russian languages will contribute to a better understanding of the old Mongolian text. The high scientific and practical relevance of the book for the development of historical linguistics, source studies, research of the history of the Buryats is noted. Keywords: Chronicle, monument, history, old Mongolian writing, recension, transliteration, translation, Buryat language, vocabulary, scientific and practical significance Bibliography: |
