Abstract: The publication under review presents a current study of the novel “The Idiot” by F. Dostoevsky, where an original interpretation concept of classic fictional work is introduced. The text of the novel is analyzed in terms of the autobiographical experience of the writer, having overcome the situation of capital punishment. The story of a real, but not accomplished execution brings up to date the category of return, which is understood as Christian resurrection for a new life. Using the method of discourse analysis, E. Novikova studies the phenomenon of ecphrasis in detail as well as reveals intertextual literary links in the novel. Keywords: Dostoevsky studies, F.
