Abstract: The paper deals with the relationship between the verbal and prosodic side of an utterance. The material analyzed is a dialogue recorded on the audio device. This dialogue is a controversial text sent for a linguistic expertise study. The purpose of the work is to characterize the types of correlation between the verbal and prosodic components of an utterance and determine the role of intonation in the formation of the semantic aspect of the sounding speech. The analysis of the material is carried out using the computer program Speech Analyzer. A conclusion is made about the intonational characteristic of the utterance. The author distinguishes between two types of correlation between the verbal and prosodic components of an utterance: 1) coordination of the verbal and non-verbal levels of an utterance; 2) the discrepancy between the verbal and prosodic aspect of an utterance. The content of utterances revealing the second type correlation between the verbal and prosodic components is analyzed in detail.
