Abstract: The paper deals with the peculiarities of functioning of graphic vocabulary in the folklore texts in the so-called small forms in the Finno-Ugric languages. The author defines the graphic vocabulary, shows its subclasses and discusses its primary (expressive) function in everyday speech and literature. The results of studying the graphic vocabulary in proverbs and sayings and its role in the creation of the effect of language game are presented. The folklore riddles, song refrains and nursery rhymes are analyzed. In each genre, the graphic vocabulary performs its primary (expressive) function and as well as it plays some specific roles defined by the genre.
