Name: Investigation into the influence of the method of translating a metaphor on its sociopragmatic component

Abstract: The paper investigates the influence of metaphor translation techniques on sociopragmatics. The authors discuss the present day state of the problem, describe the methodology of the analysis that is in progress, and propose an algorithm of performing a more complete pragmatics investigation, integrating the transformational and the cognitive approach. During the comparative analysis of the translations of the metaphors of the political discourse of English-language newspapers into Russian the authors of the paper prepare tables containing the percentage of using translation transformations, their levels and methods of transmitting metaphoric forms. A correlation analysis of the methods of metaphor interchange between the data of the newspapers is performed to establish the relevance of the selection. With separate examples the authors show what influence the translation techniques exert on sociopragmatics, and demonstrate tables with the summary information on all the examples. In conclusion the authors indicate possible directions of further research and formulate the main conclusions.
