Abstract: The reviewed chrestomathy is an anthology of texts and contexts (short individual utterances) produced by the Russian dialect speakers of Kuznetsk Basin as recorded by the authors and their colleagues from the Kemerovo State University during the course of 40 years. The review offers a brief analysis of the chrestomathy, determines its theoretical and practical value, as well as its educational and cultural value in the process of training future philologists. The chrestomathy is characterized as a new type of textbook on Russian Dialectology, offering a complex view of the conceptosphere of dialect speakers in the aforementioned area reflected in their speech: their mentality, local nature, countryside culture, activities and crafts of the local community, fragments of the local history.

Keywords: chrestomathy, dialect chrestomathy, dialect speakers, dialect speech
