Abstract: Presented in the review of the All-Russian scientific conference «The Russian travelogue of the 18th–20th centuries» are the thematic lines of the conference and the summaries of the reports. Philologists, culturologists and historians from Novosibirsk, Moscow, Tyumen, Ivanovo, Perm, Tver, Ekaterinburg, Omsk and Kazan took part in the activity of the conference. The problems discussed at the conference were defined by the research of the documentary texts (travel notes, reports, essays, journals, memoirs, letters, etc.) written in connection with the travels and with the interpretation of the artistic reception of real and fictitious travels. The travels over one’s own and foreign country, the geographic plots and «discoveries», the peculiarities of the percep-tion and assessment of «the strange», the ethnographic, scientific and touristic assimilation of space, travels «on business», the forced travels (deportation) have also got in the researchers’ field of vision. Very actively discussed was the genre specificity of the travelogue, its differences from the literature on traveling, the literariness as the property of documentary travelogues, the influence of fiction literature on the forming of the travelogue narrative.
