Abstract: The paper deals with formulae and cliched phrases of Old English short records. Thus, cited by way of examples are different variants of formulae and clichéd phrases registered as forming the basis for yearly inscriptions. The author describes three main types of transformations of formulae and clichéd phrases, which demonstrate development of relations in the context of culture. These types of transformation are as follows: type «A», reframing of conventional formulae; type «B», lexical substitution of the key word; type «B», production of new combinations and phrases with a different semantic structure. The author demonstrates that formulae are connected with the emergence of innovative descriptions characterized by great detail. Consequently, an increase in the amount of information is taking place.

Keywords: formulae, symbolic unity, innovative formula, conventional formulae, clichéd phrases, lexical substitution, semantic structure, archaic tradition, aspect of information transfer
