Abstract: The article focuses on some methodological issues of the interdisciplinary approach with reference to historical linguistic theories and their practical value. New theoretical research and linguodidactic problematic areas are recognized in the interdisciplinary aspects under discussion. Such areas are associated with setting up inventories of language changes and units of analysis (linguistic types), their systematization, and chronology. Ethno-cultural (social) identity is viewed as one of the chief topics of modern interdisciplinary studies where researchers and educationalists may have common interests.
