Abstract: The paper investigates a complex of documentary and polemical texts of the collection of manuscripts created late in the XVII century in connection with the church persecution of two representatives of Russian culture of the «transitional» period Petr Artemyev and Grigory Skibinsky. The author of the paper reveals the structure and composition of the collection, gives its general characteristics, defines thematic and textual connections between the documentary texts and literary works focused on religious and theological polemics and belonging to authors with different religious and cultural views. Also defined are the types of the documents (petitions, formal replies, resolutions of church synods) included in the collection as well as the degree of artistry in the documents. Besides, analysis is made of the literary texts in the collection and of the influence exerted on them by the forms of the documentary texts. The relationship of the literature and the documental texts at the end of the XVII century is characterized as a continuous process, reflecting the features of the evolution of literature at that period.
