Abstract: The article deals analysis of the stories about dead body in the context of the mortal plots of the Russian literature of XIX century. This plot is closely connected with different traditions as folklore and literature in one hand and law and criminology in other hand. Investigated type of ritual is embraced in three repeatable variants: 1) detection and inquisition, 2) story of the deadman, 3) quasi-variant of story about dead body. In particular, «Story about unknown dead body» of Vladimir Odoevsky presents «possible / impossible» potential of the plot. The multiplicity of the initial situation determined to repeating it in the literary process and securing the nomination «The dead body» in a strong position (Vladimir Dal’, Ilya Salov, Vasily Sleptsov, Anton Chekhov and other). A specific interest, in my mind, in this perspective presents some plots, that genesis and formation is connected with parody and travesty (include here travesty of the sacral senses and symbols). This study demonstrates some stable patterns, which allows describe this segment in the context of the correlation of the invariant and variants.

Keywords: story about dead body, mortal code, tanatos, russian literature of xix century, secondary-type of narrative and alternatively.
