Abstract: This article analyzes the poem of Daniil Kharms «An Instant from Signs» («Ot znakov mig», 1931). The exotic plot of the poem associated with the tale of Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann «The Royal Bride» (1821), the hero of which, as in the poem by Kharms, is the magically animated carrots. Kharms takes the action to Soviet Russia and poetically transforms the plot of the German tale, based on the principles of reduction, inversion and diffusion.
