ArticleName: Concept of PEACE in Language of Avant-Garde Poetry and Soviet Propaganda Authors: Olga V. Sokolova Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russian Federation
Abstract: The article explores the semantic and pragmatic features of the concept of PEACE functioning in case of Avant-garde poetry and Soviet propaganda. Such key features of Avant-garde poetry as the creation of a new artistic language with the help of the revolutionization of language norms underlies the polysemy actualization of the word peace. A special focus of the study dwells on the history of the Soviet slogan Peace to the world. Although Orthodox prayers and classical texts stand out among the sources of the slogan, Mayakovsky was one of the first to express this idea in the elliptical form of the slogan-appeal, giving it a motivating meaning: Peace to the world, war to the war. A further change in pragmatic functioning is associated with the cliché of the slogan, which becomes part of the Soviet political discourse and loses the polysemy and active influence on the addressee inherent in the Avant-garde poetic statement. Keywords: polysemy, neologization, performativity, illocutionary force, poetic Avant-garde, Soviet political discourse Bibliography: Arutyunova N.D.
