Abstract: Systematizing folklore genres is still an unsolved problem of folkloristics. The article summarizes the experience of previous approaches to the genre classification and suggests a genre taxonomy model in the form of ontology. The article presents three interrelated models for the genre attribution: a universal genre taxonomy, a local genre taxonomy and a system of a genre features. Scalable genre classification serves to provide the researcher with a variety of navigation tools. The models are developed in Russian, English and national languages.

Keywords: genre taxonomy, ontology
