Name: Thanatological plot-motif complex in novels by G. Gazdanov

Abstract: The article explores thanatological plot and motive complex in the novels by G. Gazdanov. In the course of the analysis the author reveals Gazdanov’s attitude towards death determining his attitude towards life as well. The investiga-tion of the writer’s artistic perception and his emotional experience of death enables to see not only his dominating ideas connected with the problem of the young immi-grants’ self-consciousness but also the distinctive features of Gazdanov’s mental setup determining his peculiar position in the literary environment of the “unnoticed generation”. As the research has shown, the Biblical plot of Kain and Abel is a base of the theme of death in Gazdanov’s work. The second part of the investigation is devoted to this plot’s modulations which create a varied plot tree structure in the cycle of Gazdanov’s novels.
