ArticleName: Semiotics and writing systems Authors: S.G. Proskurin Novosibirsk State University
Abstract: The current article deals with issues of history of ABCs. The author analyzes key issues of modeling in semiotics of writing systems. In particular, the article is devoted to the description of alphabetical principle in action. The use of this principle in analysis allows us to model images of the world. So Latin term elementum and its Old Greek correlative term are complex ABC words, which were often used in Antiquity for modeling origin of the world. As mentioned in the arti-cle, speakers resort to use of the ABS’s chains to present the content during model-ing cognitive images of some phenomena. In the article one will find example of the ABC formula-palindrome, which presents itself as an anagram of introductory sen-tence of the prayer Pater Noster. Besides, the article covers fundamental role of the ABC principle in definition of characterological features of the writing systems.
