Abstract: The article presents an analysis of implicit semiotic concepts, the class of effect, as well as the relationship between the categories of «effect», «beginning» of text and «end» of text on the basis of Edgar Allan Poe's theoretical articles. Analysis of his critical articles showed that he consciously chooses texts of limited length: e.g. story, poem. Stories and poems allow the author to operate on the category «effect» to achieve the integrity of artwork. Through this category the author destroys the artistic convention and takes the reader into the «real» space to keep him in suspense (syntagmatic and pragmatic levels), and the voltage is maintained by the category of «effect». In Ed. Po's poetics the «beginning» and «end» of the artistic text are also important. The depth of implicit semiotic ideas consists in the fact that the effect of artistic text is consciously achieved through the use of alliteration (the level of the signified).

Keywords: Ed. Allan Po, semiotics, category of «effect», «beginning» and «end» of the text
