Abstract: The paper approaches the interdisciplinary analysis of V. P. Zinchenko’s consciousness structure from the standpoints of semiotics and narratology. Each layer of consciousness within the structure corresponds to its own type of signs in semiotics: the existential layer relates to icon, the reflexive layer – to index, and semantic layer – to symbol. We elucidate that the process of awareness is directed at the assertoric modality, the process of consciousness – to the modalily of necessity, and the process of creative self-consciousness – to the modality of possibility. The paper demonstrates the link between each of the modalities and certain levels of interpretation: the assertoric modality corresponds to the monocontextual level, the modality of necessity – to the polycontextual level, and the modality of possibility – to the projective level of interpretation. Additionally, each level of interpretation is represented by different kind of narrative practices: monocontextual narrative technique, poly-contextual narrative and the technique of narrative projecting. Thus, it is concluded that V. P. Zinchenko’s consciousness structure can be discussed in terms of modal categories, semiotic concepts and narrative practices.

Keywords: psychosemiotics, consciousness, self-consciousness, layer of consciousness, modality, sign, interpretation strategy, narrative technique
