Abstract: The paper deals with the genre peculiarities of the play «Flight» by M. Bulgakov as an «epic drama» and with the related methods of describing the characters' dramatic fate in the situation when they were deprived of their fatherland and homes and doomed to their surrogates like some temporary shelters such as church, station, office, house in a strange land. In their turn, they all undergo transformations, and frequently the transformations are paradoxical. On the whole, this signifies the irreversible destruction of the traditional Russian culture of every day life.
