Abstract: The paper analyses the literary descriptions of the Smolensk Princes Rostislaviches in the Kiev Chronicles of the 12th century. With a purposeful text revision, the editor of the Chronicles hegumen Moses accentuated the continuity line of grand-ducal authority from Vladimir Monomakh’s father to the representative of the younger line of his great grandsons, Rurik Rostislavich.
