Abstract: The versification system of the Tuva-Toju song genres Yr and Kozhamyk is characterized in the present paper for the first time. Serving as the material for this research are samples of Toju song lyrics recorded during expeditions conducted by Novosibirsk State Conservatoire in 1997 and 1999. The author successively analyzes all the hierarchical levels of the versification system, such as song composition, double strophes, strophe organization, distich, syllabic and lexical arrangement of lines and semi-lines. The author’s viewpoint on the singing nature of the poetic lyrics of Toju songs is corroborated by the analysis of the rhythmic and melodic components: standard syllabic-rhythmic formulas and tunes.

Keywords: versification of songs, folklore, tuvinians-tojus
