Abstract: The paper considers the problem of identifying the place of the popular science genre in the genres classifications with due regard to certain linguistic and literary approaches. The history of the origin and development of the forms of scientific knowledge popularization is directly linked with the development of both scientific genres and genres of journalism. The contaminated nature of the popular science genre is also due to its close interaction with the genres of fiction literature and philosophy.
