Abstract: The paper discusses the influence of syntactic peculiarities of a language on the processes of discursive activity of a linguistic personality as one of the problems of rhetorical criticism. On the material of a fragment of an article by Apollo Grigoriev an analysis is made of the mental-speech strategies reflecting the systemic originality of the Russian language. It is proposed to take into account the conformity of the rhetorical-critical estimation of concrete speech with the purely linguistic rhetorical ideal as an important criterion of this estimation.
