Abstract: The paper is devoted to Charles Baudelaire’s interpretation of the musicai drama "Tannhäuser" by Richard Wagner. In his essay "Richard Wagner et “Tannhäuserz” à Paris" (1861) the poet proposes that Wagner’s drama should be regarded in the context of he mythocentric movement of the epoch. Baudelaire regards the relationship between the main characters (Tannhäuser and Venus) as a plot with a holy marriage (the Great goddess’s love for the dying and reviving god, his sacrifice, death and resurrection). Baudelaire also transfers this archetypical plot to the characters of his "Paris Spleen" – "Petits Poèmes en prose" (1869).

Keywords: charles baudelaire, richard wagner, tannhäuser, musical drama, archetype, holy marriage, great goddess
