Abstract: The paper considers the combination of genres in the short Christmas story «The robbery» by N. S. Leskov. The basic plot situation in the story is based on the idea of «an honest thief». However, its development in the narration leads to several genre results: the story is based the thief’s repentance of the committed sin. The narration reveals the interaction of the man and the event. An anecdote tells about an unintentional robbery On the whole, the story unfolds as the teller’s autobiography. In this case the frame narration is shown to be of importance.
