Name: Creating Concepts as a Metaphysical Practice (Olga Tokarchuk and Project Ex-centrum)

Abstract:

The article is devoted to the applied aspects of cognitive semiotics: algorithms of metaphysical thinking. The focus of attention is the system of new concepts, represented by Olga Tokarczuk in the book “Czuły Narrator” and the linguistic social project ex-centrum. According to the author, the units of the projective dictionary will transform the semantic architecture of the world, fill its conceptual voids. The work presents a lexicographic description of new words (ex-centryczność, o-gnozja, etc.), their narrative resources, cognitive and socio-cultural potential, transformation of concepts into intercultural monads. It is shown that the network principle of interpretation of concepts (the effect of infinition) is predicted by the vector of projective thinking. The article ends with a discussion of problematic issues: do culture needs the conceptual doubling (the question of novelty of new concepts) and is the author who creates the words the lord of the language.
