Abstract:

The work is based on the methodology of the theory of local texts and the geopoetic approach. The article summarizes and systematizes data on the history, functions and cultural images of Siberian cities. The purpose of the study is to identify a universal all-Siberian paradigm of the urban text, against which the uniqueness or typicality of certain features of the city will become apparent. The Siberian city text reveals something in common with the St. Petersburg text (a city of an eccentric type of regular building, mostly “male”), a provincial text (with the leveling of the frontier status of the city). Figurative analogies (a key, a window, a gate, Siberian Athens, a corner of St. Petersburg) are not exclusive, they are found in connection with several cities of Siberia. The potential for the development of loci in the region is different.

The most advantageous location of the city is at the intersection of water and land routes. The modern city is heterogeneous in terms of development, functions and semantics of individual areas, representing a cultural palimpsest.
