Abstract:

The article explores the language of children’s prose as a social and institutional norm controlled by the aesthetic directives of a historical epoque. It studies the stylistic means which manifest these linguoaesthetic norms in the recommended and highly-rated Soviet (issued in 1950s – 1980s) and post-Soviet prose (issued after 2000). The research is based on 12 short stories and novels and allows identify the linguoaesthetic norms which give evidence of the aesthetic changes in children’s realistic prose. These include onomasiology games, as well as the higher variance in the authors’ use of tropes and register shifts which appear in post-Soviet prose. These differences although revealed as tendencies, suffice to claim that apart from the new models of fiction world construal which have appeared in post-Soviet children’s literature, we observe the wholly new linguoaesthetic norms.
