Abstract:

The article is devoted to the history of Soviet metaphors, recorded as gazetteisms by the Explanatory Dictionary of the Russian Language, edited by D. N. Ushakov, and continuing to be used in the post-Soviet media text. The metaphor, characteristic of a certain era and actualized in journalistic publications of subsequent decades, contributes to the broadcast mental structures of the past, and its study is necessary for an adequate assessment of the impact of media texts on modern society. Based on materials of the newspaper “Kommersant” 1991–2022, the author examines the semantic and stylistic evolution of soviet metaphors sore and hydra and demonstrates gradual depoliticization of images while maintaining the principle of lexical transfer – from the particular to the general, from the concrete to the abstract. In the conclusion the article show the stable demand for metaphors, primarily of a conversational nature, by a media text focused on expression and accessibility. According to the results of the study, the author gives some lexicographic recommendations, it is proposed to reflect in the explanatory dictionaries of the modern Russian language the metaphorical meanings of words that regularly appear in the texts of the media.
