This volume is a scholarly publication of the popular and widely known Tuvan folk epic tales “Khunan-Kara”, “Boktug-Kirish”, and “Bora-Shelei” as performed by the outstanding Tuvan storytellers O. Chanchy-Khoo and O. Mannaya. The text of the first tale, based on a recording made by the storyteller himself, is published here for the first time. The second tale was re-elicited based on an archived phonogram copy. The texts convey a vivid impression of traditional epic motifs, poetic and artistic techniques, plot varieties and images characteristic of Tuvan tales.
